August 2022 Fire Police

Fire Police course is based on the general Municipal Law 209-c and the rules and regulations of the Officer of Fire Prevention and Control and the Department of Criminal Justices. This course outlines how the Fire Police in New York State have powers and duties, while on duty with their fire departments, to protect the fire service from hazards on the scene of emergencies they may be operating. The Office of Fire Prevention and Control recognizes this vital part of any emergency scene that is performed on our streets every day.

The student attending this course will obtain the following knowledge and skill sets when attending this course:

– Laws, rules, and regulations on Fire Police as Peace Officers

– History of the fire service and fire police

– Personal Protective equipment

– Traffic Management situations as outlined under the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices

– Flagger training as outlined by the National Safety Council and New York State

– Incident management system under today’s guidelines of New York State and Federal Guidelines

– Crowd control and crime scene management practices

– Skills, exercises and written testing to obtain New York State certification as a Fire Police officer.

NOTE: PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE ASSIGNED FIRE POLICE MEMBERS WHO HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED THIS REQUIRED TRAINING.

July 2022 Apparatus Operator – Emergency Vehicle Operation

Apparatus Operator – Emergency Vehicle Operation

provides vehicle operators with a better understanding of the seriousness of emergency vehicle operation. Based on objectives from National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator, Chapter 2, this course stimulates the thought processes to make students aware of the potential for tragedy and financial loss and of the legal and moral responsibilities encountered when operating an emergency vehicle.

July 2022 – Truck Company Operations

Truck Company Operations provides instruction for using ladder company equipment including operating ground ladders. Course includes instruction on duties and responsibilities of the ladder company, operating and maintaining specialized tools, ventilation, forcible entry, search, and building construction.

REMINDER: THIS IS NOT A CLASS ONLY FOR LADDER TRUCKS BUT SKILLS OF A TRUCK COMPANY

Prerequisites: Firefighter I or equivalent, and students must have a “Training Authorization Form” signed by the Chief indicating medical clearance for SCBA use and student is physically capable to wear SCBA and participate in the physical activities required in the class.

July 2022 – Live Fire Training NFPA 1403 2018

Live Fire Training – NFPA 1403, 2018 Edition The purpose and intent of this course is to provide the student with basic understanding of the requirements of NFPA 1403 Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions. It is intended that the student be provided with an introduction to 17 REVS 2/01/21 the necessary knowledge and tools to properly prepare and conduct live fire-training evolutions. This program provides an in-depth analysis of NFPA 1403; addressing evolutions at municipal training centers, gas fired training buildings and exterior props, vehicle fires and acquired structures and exterior class B fires. It is also designed to provide an overview of live fire training requirements, especially for responsible individuals such as commissioners and chiefs who may not be directly involved with the conduct or planning of these evolutions, but with whom may rest the ultimate responsibility for training within their jurisdiction.

This class is designed for: Commissioners, chief officers, presidents, members of boards of directors and elected officials who may have legal authority and responsibility for fire department live fire training activities and those who actually conduct live fire evolutions. (EVERYONE!)

Summer 2022 Blending Learning FF1 & Survival

Firefighter I- Blended Learning is the initial entry program for firefighting personnel, Firefighter I introduces firefighting concepts, practices and techniques necessary for success within the fire service. Based on the Firefighter Level I objectives from NFPA Standard 1001, this course develops knowledge, skills and abilities based on performance criteria for the following topics: fire department organization, firefighter safety, fire behavior, personal protective equipment, self-contained breathing  apparatus, fire extinguishers, building searches, forcible entry, ground ladders, ventilation, hose practices, fire streams, and loss control. The course consists of performance criteria in: incident command, building construction, ropes/knots, rescue procedures, forcible entry applications, ventilation practices, fire extinguisher applications, suppression of structural fires, tactics, vehicle suppression, water supply, loss control, fire cause determination, fire  department  communications, fire suppression systems, hazardous materials, weapons of mass destruction, confined space safety and fire prevention practices.

Note: This course is being conducted in a daytime format condensed version. The course will be extremely physically demanding and is intended for only the most committed of firefighters.

Engine Company Operations May 2022

Engine Company Operations offers student education and hands-on training. Firefighter Self-Rescue(Firefighter Survival) April 2022

Firefighter Survival: Self Rescue is designed for self-rescue and rescue of trapped firefighters. Course content will enable firefighters to recognize the types of events encountered on the fire ground that contribute to fire­fighter disorientation and/or entrapment, to have knowledge of what is necessary to ensure their safety and that of their partners or crew members, and perform self-rescue techniques when disoriented, separated, or when needing to exit a structure in an emergency. This course requires students to perform a number of practical evolutions with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). This course includes the National Fire Academy Calling the Mayday.

Prerequisites: Firefighter I, SCBA medical clear­ance, and signed Training Authorization Letter.

Spring 2022 Blended Firefighter 1

Combined Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations & SCBA/ Interior Firefighting Operations-Firefighter I – Blended Learning (Internet based) course

This course is designed for the highly motivated, self-directed student with access to high-speed internet who can commit to a very aggressive training schedule in a compressed time format. Students will be expected to read three chapters, complete the respective on-line interactive slide shows and score 70% on three on-line chapter tests each week.  Students will be monitored and assisted by an instructor through email and on-line course contact.  Corresponding skills instruction and evaluation will occur at a training facility during weeks three, eight and nine.  Students must be available to attend a four-hour orientation session. Final written and skills evaluation will be performed during the last two classes.

As the initial entry program for firefighting personnel, this combined course introduces firefighting concepts, practices and techniques necessary for the new member to become an interior structural firefighter who can perform under the direct supervision of a company officer.

Completion of this course achieves the 21 objectives of function 4.2 Interior Firefighters of the OFPC Recommended Best Practices for FD Training Programs (01/15) document.

Designed for: Entry-level FD members seeking to become interior structural firefighters

Course Length: 26 units of on-site skills training & 22 units of independent on-line learning

Prerequisites: Completion of an approved CPR by course completion.

Students must be physically capable of wearing SCBA and possess current medical clearance for SCBA use. Students not possessing this prerequisite will not be allowed to participate for their own safety. A completed “Training Authorization Letter” mailed with your registration will meet this requirement.

NOTE: There is a $40.00 fee for this class for IFSTA on- line curriculum access.

Course content will enable firefighters to recognize the types of events encountered on the fire ground that contribute to firefighter disorientation and/or entrapment, to have knowledge of what is necessary to ensure their safety and that of their partners or crew members, and perform self-rescue techniques when disoriented, separated, or when needing to exit a structure in an emergency. This course requires students to perform several practical evolutions with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and includes vertical self-rescue skills utilized for egress from an elevation.

Tactical Fireground Simulations – Jan2022 – Greenfield

Tactical Fireground Simulations course provides students the ability to practice initial command functions on a fire emergency scene utilizing real time computer-based scenarios. It is not intended to teach command functions, but rather reinforce previously learned theories while giving students the opportunity to practice in the command role. Through a series of computer simulations, students will serve as both company officer and initial incident commander.

Course Length: 12 hours

Designed for: Students with experience in initial command functions as this course reinforces theories associated with those functions.

Prerequisite is any of the following: Fire Officer 1 or Intro to Fire Officer or Fireground Strategies and Tactics for First Arriving Companies or Strategy and Tactics for Initial Company Operations (NFA) or other strategies and tactics course.
