SCBA / Interior Firefighting Operations course prepares new BEFO
graduates to operate as Interior Structural firefighters or in IDLH areas of
the fire scene. Students participate in learning events covering firefighter
personal protective equipment (PPE), self-contained breathing apparatus
donning, doffing and use, SCBA air management and SCBA emergencies,
basic firefighter survival techniques, modern fire control methods, building
fire search and victim removal techniques, firefighter survival skills, tactical
ventilation techniques and basic power saw operation, forcible entry
techniques, hose line advancement, vehicle and wildland firefighting theory,
vehicle firefighting techniques, coordinated structure fire interior attack and
transitional fire attack, and coordinated initial company operations.
Designed for: BEFO course graduates ready to perform interior structural
and IDLH firefighting operations. Course

Basic Exterio Firefighter Operations (BEFO) w/ Hazardous Materials
Operations (HMFRO) course is designed to prepare entry-level department
members to respond to emergencies as exterior firefighters. This course is designed to
accomplish the objectives of OFPC Recommended Best Practices for Fire Department
Training, Exterior Firefighter training objectives. Portions of the NFPA 1001 and NFPA
472 will be covered to train the entry level member as an exterior firefighter as defined
by OSHA regulation 1910.156 Fire Brigade Standard. Training on OSHA’s 1910.120
Emergency Response to Hazardous Materials regulation, 1910.146 Confined Space Entry
regulations (awareness level) and the 1910.147 Control of Hazardous Energy regulation.
Successful completion of this course requires that the student complete all portions of
the course to include passing the written testing (Hazardous Materials First Responder
Operations exam, quizzes and a final exam) with at least a 70% passing grade,
successfully demonstrate all associated BEFO skills, and attend all hands-on and testing
sessions.

Firefighter Self-Rescue(Firefighter Survival) December 2023

Firefighter Self Rescue is based on Chief John Salka’s “Get Out Alive”
program, this program is designed for self-rescue and rescue of trapped
firefighters. Course content will enable firefighters to recognize the types of
events encountered on the fire ground that contribute to firefighter
disorientation and/or entrapment, to have knowledge of what is necessary
to ensure their safety and that of their partners or crew members, and
perform self-rescue techniques when disoriented, separated, or when
needing to exit a structure in an emergency. This course requires students
to perform several practical evolutions with self-contained breathing
apparatus (SCBA). This course includes the National Fire Academy Calling
the Mayday.

and cylinder changing, fire department communications, building
construction and fire behavior, modern fire control research, portable fire
extinguishers, rope and knot tying, ground ladders, forcible entry, tactical
ventilation theory, water supply, hose and fire streams, loss control,
orientation to fire origin and cause determination, fire prevention and life
safety initiatives, confined space awareness, overview of first aid and buddy
care, and Haz Mat First Responder Operations.

Fall 2022 – Firefighter 2

Firefighter II is designed as the last step in initial level training for interior structural
firefighters and/or who will serve as team or group leaders under the general
supervision of an officer. It introduces new more advanced areas that will be expanded
in other training programs. This course will include Vehicle Extrication techniques giving
a firefighter the training components equivalent to those found within NFPA Firefighter
II Standard.
Firefighter II is based on objectives from NFPA Standard 1001, Firefighter Level II, and
consists of performance criteria in: incident command implementation, building
materials and collapse, special rescue, hydrant flow and operability, hose tools, foam
operations, flammable liquid/gases, detection, alarm systems, fire department
communications, pre-fire planning, special situations, strategy and tactics.
Course Length: 42 hours
Prerequisites: Firefighter I or equivalent and students must also be physically
capable of wearing SCBA and possess current medical clearance for SCBA use.
Students not possessing this prerequisite will not be allowed to participate for their
own safety. A completed “Training Authorization Letter” will meet this
requirement.
