- The modular format and the current offering will contain the same content. It will make no difference which version a student takes. Both options will be available to counties
- Students will not be allowed to jump from one format to another. However, we will develop a system for students to make up missed units across the two formats
- The modular format will consist of five (5) independent courses. Each course will have a unique course number and will be indicated on a student’s training record
- The longest module is approximately 15 hours long and the shortest will be 9
- Upon completion of the five modules, students will receive credit for completion of Fire Officer 1. We are working on the administrative system for keeping track of completed modules.
- This WILL NOT give them national certification. That will still be offered as a stand-alone exam
- The five modules may be scheduled in any order by the county
- The modules may be taken in any order by the student
- To gain credit for Fire Officer 1 through the modular delivery, all five modules must be completed within a two (2) year period. This will start when the student takes their first course of the series
- Students that have previously taken Fireground Strategy & Tactics for First Arriving Companies will receive credit for that module and will not have to retake it. If taken previously, the two-year completion time frame will not include the FSTFAC completion. The time frame will begin with completion of another of the modules
- The testing component will be based on smaller unit exams rather than a large end of course test
- The five modules are currently entitled: Preliminary Schedule
